Deliveries do not fail at the deadline. They fail at the estimate.

Every delivery is a promise between two parties: this, by then, for that. The promise is signed on a guess, and found to be broken at the deadline.

Every delivery is a promise between two parties: this, by then, for that. Delivery is measured in money and reported in status meetings. So the promise is signed on a guess, and found to be broken at the deadline, when the only thing left to do is pay for it.

The information existed. It did not travel.

The signs sit in a team's head, in a status report written for a meeting, in a spreadsheet nobody else can query. Status is a report, not a measurement. The party paying rarely has the depth to test what it is told. It is how the information travels, not who failed.

“Your six month contract is a ten month plan.”

That is the warning a delivery should get at day zero, from the first input, while a change still costs nothing. Retival gives two warnings, named apart: one at day zero, and one during delivery, when the work moves against the forecast.

It is not one industry's problem

The words differ from one industry to the next. The unit underneath does not: hours that people give to the work. Software, health, construction, energy, consulting, logistics and the public sector all make promises against a date and a budget, and all meet the same gap.

What changes

Retival measures actual delivery capacity and forecasts from it, so the gap shows before anyone signs, rather than at the deadline. A milestone that can no longer be reached is escalated to the roles with the mandate, before the deadline rather than at it, and the decision they take is recorded with the evidence it rested on.

Nothing about how a team works is changed. What changes is what can be seen.

Know before.Take the next step.
